DfT commission roads safety film via GCS TV Fillers Marketing

Monday 25 September 2017

A TV Filler has been developed to alert drivers to the dangers and consequences of using a phone whilst driving.

Commissioned by Department for Transport (DfT) in collaboration with GCS Fillers Marketing, a new road safety Filler is being marketed to broadcasters for transmission.

DfT announced in March that penalties were doubling for those caught using a handheld phone while driving. DfT research showed that mobile phone use was a contributory factor in 22 fatal and 75 serious road accidents in 2015, and that despite being illegal since 2003, the use of handheld phones remains prevalent. This provided an opportunity to alert drivers to the dangers and consequences of using a phone while driving, to prompt drivers to change their behaviour.

This poignant 30sec film features a family who have had their lives irrevocably changed by one driver who used his phone while driving. Tragically, the distraction led to a crash in which a wife and mother lost her life.
