GCS Campaign of the Month winner July 2020

Congratulations to the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) Corporate Communications team, winner of July’s GCS Campaign of the Month competition for their work on the internal ‘Coronavirus (COVID-19) communications’ campaign.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, staff at MoJ were operating under high pressure. The campaign aimed to:

  • build awareness and understanding among staff of practical actions they should be taking
  • help staff continue to feel valued and proud to work for MoJ
  • support staff health and wellbeing
  • equip senior leadership to effectively engage staff

The team became more heavily involved in organisational issues to support policy and operational decisions. They were also proactive with their campaigns, and adjusted existing campaigns to reinforce MoJ’s mission and values. For example, they used their ‘Be Well’ campaign to promote new wellbeing sources, and brought staff stories to life through a series of communications celebrating ‘Justice Heroes’.

Judges commented:

“The campaign exceeded its objectives, as well as adding significant value via improved relationships, fast-paced delivery and use of new technology. It provides a best practice blueprint for other internal communication teams to follow when planning communications to support their departmental response to challenging external situations.”

The work has also been shortlisted for awards from PR Week and the Institute of Internal Communications.

Congratulations to the team, which included:
