GCS wellbeing champions needed for new working group

Government Communication Service (GCS) is setting up a cross-government wellbeing group for communications professionals and is seeking volunteers to join.

Post-its which read: 'think positively', 'exercise', 'keep things simple', 'eat healthy', 'laugh', 'sleep well', 'work smart', and 'worry less'.

GCS is asking for volunteers to join the new wellbeing group and help steer its work to design wellbeing support for communicators in Government. Existing Mental Health First Aiders and Wellbeing Leads are in particular invited to get involved.

The GCS Wellbeing Group will consist of a small group of departmental representatives, who will meet on a regular basis and collaborate on wellbeing initiatives for GCS. The objective will be to support government communicators and encourage conversations around mental health.

Matt Dolman, a founding member of the GCS wellbeing group commented:

“Since joining the civil service, I’ve worked with some brilliant communicators and seen first hand the high-quality, high-impact work they do. And as a mental health first aider, I recognise how important it is for us all to make time for our wellbeing while we’re delivering this work.

“Forming the GCS Wellbeing group is a first step towards creating a support package that’s designed by communicators, for communicators. Our ambition is to identify ways of complementing departments’ existing wellbeing offers and providing bespoke support for communications professionals, from training and events to practical tips and useful resources.”
