Career framework

The Career Framework is for everyone – from policy colleagues looking to move into communications, to existing communicators from central government, arm’s length bodies and/or devolved administrations looking to progress their careers.

It provides a breakdown of job roles, which features different grades and specialisms. It enables people to identify what is expected for each role at each level, and then to understand how they can progress or develop through different job roles and levels. The Career Framework also outlines the full range of development opportunities and initiatives that you can access as a member of the profession. 

The GCS Career Framework can be used as part of your Personal Development plan and as a basis for career and talent conversations to discuss future aspirations and possible career moves.
