Whichever government organisation you join, you'll be involved in vital work that has an impact on the public from the very beginning.
Government communicators who recently joined GCS in entry-level grades have already been involved in a number of interesting and exciting activities, including:
- Visiting the new Crossrail site in London’s Canary Wharf, which involved being kitted out in full protective gear and going underground;
- Acting as a press officer for broadcast media at the Girl Summit, which focused on ending Female Genital Mutilation and forced marriage. Attendees included Malala Yousafzai, Freida Pinto and David Cameron;
- Working across departments on high-profile issues, for example, with No. 10, the Cabinet Office, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and other government departments on communications around the MH17 disaster in Ukraine;
- Going on a ministerial visit to Sweden for work on the Better Care Fund, aimed at investing money into local services to give the elderly and the vulnerable an improved health and social system.
